Yama hime means dwarf mountain which adequately describes this small mounding shrub. The long slender lobes appear in spring edged in red. As summer approaches the leaves turn to a dark green. This cultivar, like 'Shishio hime', seems to be a lower growing more spreading version than some of the other maples of this type. Fall color is yellow to orange.
