Acer palmatum ‘Katsura hime’ has some of the most remarkable yellow spring color of any Japanese maple. Similar to that of ‘Katsura’ but on steroids. ‘Katsura hime’ displays a golden color with hints of yellows and oranges that really pops in the garden. Like ‘Katsura’, ‘Katsura hime’ is one of the very first trees to emerge in spring with its bright, showy leaves. The golden colors of ‘Katsura hime’ eventually fade to a light green or chartreuse by summer. Fall color is then typically a shade of bright orange. ‘Katsura hime’ is a smaller growing tree than ‘Katsura’ with a more compact growth habit.
