The 3 long lobes on the leaves of ‘Naruto Kaede’ all tend to curl inward so that both the dark green top of the leaf and the glossy back of the leaf are visible giving the tree a very unique striking appearance. This effect becomes even more dramatic in full sun which causes the leaves to curl even more. This look prompts some visitors to the garden to suggest that this plant could use more water. 'Naruto kaede' is fairly fast growing and vase shaped at least when young. Older specimens can reach 60 feet. Fall color is usually orange.
