Elegans has a very soft look due to it's juvenile foliage. This is a fast growing pyramidal tree, which can grow 12" or more per year. The chocolate color bark is also very attractive. Elegans will have nice green color in summer and an attractive bronze look in winter. This is the only Japanese Cedar cultivar where I have seen problems with Fire Blight in hotter climates.  I have heard that this is not a problem in cooler dryer areas. The similarly named 'Elegans Nana'  does not have this problem.
