Acer palmatum ‘Tsuma beni’ is one of the famous red finger nail Japanese maples. It get’s this nickname from the purple tips to the leaves that it has in spring. Unfortunately, this only lasts through the spring and the leaves of ‘Tsuma beni’ become solid green by summer. The green leaves of ‘Tsuma beni are still quite attractive however, as they are a dark, glossy green that really look good in the landscape. ‘Tsuma beni’ shows out again in fall with bright orange foliage that seemingly glows.
