This small upright tree with green bark is a joy in the garden all season long.  In spring the black red foliages highlights the green veins of the leaves. Summer gives the gardener a pleasant red leaf changing to bronze and then green all the while displaying attractive scarlet samaras. Fall color is fiery red. 'Tsukushigata' is an old cultivar, listed before 1900 in Japan.
