Acer palmatum ‘Rhode Island Red’ is a dwarf Japanese maple whose max height is about 6 feet tall. ‘Rhode Island Red’ has a dense, shrubby growing habit. Its leaves are much like those of Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’ as they are large, palmate leaves that emerge dark maroon in the spring. These leaves fade to a lesser maroon or dark olive color in the summer before turning bright red in the fall.
