Acer palmatum ‘Mayday’ is a rare slow growing Japanese maple with ‘Mikawa yatsabusa’ lineage. ‘Mayday’ has the same growth habit as ‘Mikawa yatsabusa’ with close nodes and stacking leaves. However, ‘Mayday’ emerges in spring with peach and orange colors. These colors transition to yellow-green in summer. Fall color is yellow to orange. Morning sun is ideal for this little plant, but it must be protected from the hot afternoon sun. ‘Mayday’ is a very small and slow growing tree that will only grow to about 3 or 4 feet tall at maturity.
