The confused lion is the Japanese meaning of the name and really suits this cool little tree that is almost a perfect dwarf form of 'Okushimo'. The little star shaped leaves tend to curl more and more as temperatures heat up heading into summer eventually each lobe becoming a tube. Another interesting trait is that the leaves tend to hang from the red petioles giving it a disheveled look that is very interesting. Maybe this is the confused part. While 'Kurui jishi’ is quite sun tolerant in many areas in does prefer some shade in hotter climates. Fall color is yellow to orange.
