New growth appears chartreuse edged in pink or red before hardening off to a very nice deep green. The texture of this plant with it's dime sized wrinkled leaves layered over one another is amazing. This plant seems quite vigorous due to the fact that it always seems to have new growth at its tips, definitely odd for a plant that averages 2-3 inches of new growth per year. Very rare in the trade and always hard to come by because it is very difficult to propagate due to the short distance between nodes.
