A really great tree for spring color, 'Ueno yama' emerges very early, sometimes in early March in Atlanta. Most authors consider 'Ueno yama', 'Katsura' and 'Calico' orange varieties but I consider them more yellow. The bright spring color of 'Ueno yama' tends to last longer than on the other similar varieties. All tend to darken to light green by summer. Fall color is yellow to orange and very nice.
