They don’t like too much water, they are very hardy in the winter while they are dormant, and they can handle a great deal of heat in the summer as well. The hardest thing is actually not to kill them with kindness by over-watering over-fertilizing. While Japanese maples are certainly easy to grow, the most important thing you can do to ensure its success is to plant your Japanese maple properly. People are often concerned that this is also a complicated process, but it’s really not. It’s another thing where you don’t want to do too much and overthink it. I have planted hundreds of Japanese maples over the years and I follow this very simple process for each one.
