This is another of the cork bark maples highly prized by bonsai enthusiast. 'Ibo nishiki' means "warty bark", however the fissures in the bark of this small tree do not appear as deep as in some other rough bark varieties such as 'Nishi gawa' or 'Arakawa'. This gives the bark of 'Ibo nishiki' a more subtle appearance.  Like many other rough bark varieties it usually takes several years for the warty bark to start to appear. Fall color varies from year to year but is normally a beautiful mix of yellow, orange and even red.
